Happy Birthday Papa!

My grandpa spends over half the year living on the beautiful Pelican Lake, and has for decades.  This place obviously has special importance to him, and the family.  These days he spends his winters and springs in Chanhassen, until the weather perks up a bit.
I thought he might like these pictures of the ducks on Utah Lake.  While they probably don't compare to the Minnesota loon, at least they can remind him of the Lake.
Happy Birthday Papa!

Goblin Valley Part Two

Here are my other favorites from the Goblin Valley trip.  It was a blast...we definitely recommend it to anyone.  If you can get a bigger group, try playing hide and seek or tag or Sardines in the hoodoos--it's definitely an experience not to be forgotten!

Liz and Jamison.

I think the colors really stink on all these, but that's just how they show up online. It was a great shoot...lots of fun! Thanks guys.

Goblin Valley!

Had a blast at Goblin Valley this weekend with our friends, the Evansons. It was really fun to get out there and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Lib made some delicious meals and we played really hard! More pix to come. Does anybody else see E.T. in any of these pictures??

William Wordsworth.

Currently Libby and I are studying Romanticism in our English 202 class we take together. We have to do these creative interpretation projects, and mine was on William Wordsworth. Besides hearing President Monson quote him, I have never read any of his stuff. I loved it, and resonated with much of it. Anyways here is a link to the poem I chose, one of his bestest:

A big tree.

This is the big tree outside our house. It's really big, especially when compared to the crane!! This is taken with my film camera, which I still love to use for two reasons: 1) B+W is incomparably better in film, and 2) wide angle: my wide angle lenses don't look wide angle with the digital magnification factor (1.6x).
I was originally really disappointed with the color saturation of this film (i usually use velvia but this is some other stuff), but I kind of like the strange saturation of these.
Sorry if this is a lame post. I took photos for the Give Kids a Smile Event on Saturday, but those might be a little dry. I gotta get cooking again...

Skiing.

Lib and I went skiing on Saturday at Sundance. It was a foggy day at times, and we had a blast. I decided to take the old film camera along, and here are some shots. Lib took this last one of me, which is definitely my favorite of the three (enlarge this one..it's awesome!). It might end up on our wall. I love skiing!

Sahara.

These will warm you up!
One of the highlights of our time in Morocco was spending a few days in the Sahara desert! I lugged almost all my camera stuff the whole trip (six weeks in a backpack), envisioning a sweet night shot or sunset in the desert. Well, it was more like a sandstorm! We had fun though. Perhaps the highlight was picking up a nomad in the MIDDLE of the desert...and having him ride on top of our toyota landcruiser as we flew through the rocky desert! Crazy. Beats walking thirty miles, though.

Bon Iver.

While practicing reading comprehension for the MCAT, I read a review on this guy and his band. He's pretty good. We just bought like four or five of his songs. He's from Eau Claire, WI. I guess there still are a few good things coming out of that state! I think his album cover is cool, too.

The Tandbergs.

Saturday we set up a makeshift studio in our bedroom to take photos of the Tandbergs and their new baby. I was a bit worried about the lighting being so low, but we got some great shots! There are some great color ones, but I especially liked the B+W!
Thanks especially to Libby for her quiet but necessary help with the shoot. She helped with the backgrounds, lighting, and so much more! Hope you guys like these...it's hard not to like such a cute kid! Click here for the rest of the album...
